ABOUT HOTEL DJEM

Having launched his company in Sultanahmet in 1987, Talat TEKIN took the current building of DJEM and used as his headquarter for many years, where he was inspired to create extraordinary pieces of art with old and new textiles. His first revolutionary idea was to manufacture shoes, bags, jeans, cardigans, furniture and many other items covered with kilim ( traditional pileless rugs). It was after he started exporting a great deal all over the world then this style became known to more and more . These inspirations were followed by ikat patchwork wall hangings, which are being exhibited in many eminent art galleries in Europe and States and patchwork carpets each of which can frankly be identified as ' state of the art '. Some of his creations can be seen on www.djemist.com.

After having decorated many places such as hotels, restaurants and homes, Talat TEKIN seriously considered to have his own hotel where he can apply his ideas for years. His dream came true in 2008 and DJEM became a gem in the old city not only thanks to its decoration but also warmth and comfort it offers.

For those who are curious about where the name of the hotel came from; his son Cem which is written as Djem in English and pronounced as ''Gem ''
